Autumn Breon’s Care Machine
Role: Program Coordinator on behalf of Charlotte Street
The week of August 5th - August 15th, 2024, Charlotte Street welcomed Autumn Breon's piece The Care Machine. Sponsored by For Freedoms, the piece stopped in Kansas City en route to the DNC in Chicago. The interactive piece invites the viewer to use familiar cues as opportunities to engage with the concept of care. A singular, pink vending machine is filled with objects that Black women requested in response to the following question: What items represent and provide care? The pink vending machine is fully stocked with condoms, tampons, pads, edge control, braiding hair, reproductive health resources, and books. All contents are free of charge.
